The University of Queensland (UQ) expresses concern about the potential impact that the Executive Order ‘Protecting the Nation from Foreign Terrorist Entry into the United States’ could have for our University community.
The Order may significantly affect academic collaboration, which is at the heart of our mission to contribute to the development of knowledge that is of benefit to the world. The Order may also impact on the travel plans of our students who are commencing at or returning to UQ in 2017.
We are working to understand the implications of the restrictions on freedom of travel for our staff, students and their families.
Mutual respect and diversity are amongst our core values and we aim to create an inclusive environment in which ideas flourish and future generations, regardless of background are empowered. Whilst The University of Queensland condemns terrorism in all its forms, the decision to enforce restrictions based on nationality fundamentally contravenes our values and is not something we can endorse.
